Tanya Sheremeta was born on a Tuesday at the Rochester General Hospital in upstate New York. She spent her childhood summers at the southern side, the swampy tip, of Lake Canandiagua and her winters under plenty of ice and snow. Her father, an avid reader, passed down his love of books to her at an early age. She went to college at Denison University in Central Ohio, in a small town with two bars and one library. The only things she remembers from that time are Jolly Pirate donuts, the smell of oil paint, a dead Luna moth, the long Ohio skyline, and a folio of Rothko’s paintings. She moved to Seattle six years ago when some friends decided to drive here across country. They left, she stayed. Currently, she lives in Fremont in a one bedroom apartment with the bath converted into a painting studio. She resides with her boyfriend and a German Shepard named Ilsa. |
