To all the men and women of San Diego City Firefighters Local 145:
Please let me extend my deepest appreciation for your help in my recent City Council race. We exceeded all of our expectations with a 10 point victory over my opponent. I believe your early endorsement gave me the foundation to build this lead. The people of my District care deeply about the safety of their neighborhoods, so your endorsement was especially critical.
I know 145 spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on their political program this year to produce mailers and signs for your candidates. I also know where this money comes from: directly out of the members' pockets. I am humbled at the level of support you gave my campaign. Please know that I will now do my part to understand public safety issues inside and out, and to fight for the safety of our communities.
In addition to your hard earned money, many of you also gave me your time.
We estimate that 145 members helped us knock on the doors of more than 6,000 District 3 voters during my campaign. I can tell you from experience: there was no quicker way to pick up a vote than to have one of you advocate for me at the door.
I would also like to extend a very special thank you to JT Thomson, the 145 Board member who helped organize 145's efforts on my behalf. I was lucky to have your most seasoned political veteran working so hard for my campaign.
My campaign will be hosting a victory party soon, and I invite all of you to join us for the celebration. We will be sure to share the details when we have it scheduled. I also hope to come to a future membership meeting to say thank you and share my thoughts, as well as hear yours, on the future of public safety.
