Dear Fellow Fire Fighters,

We are writing to ask for your help. But this request is not asking you to help us, it is to help all Seattle Fire Fighters and the citizens of Seattle.

Seattle Fire Fighters have endorsed Tim Burgess for Seattle City Council and we need your help to get him elected. Tim is challenging the incumbent David Della for position 7 and with our support he can win this election. Seattle Fire Fighters have jointly endorsed Tim with the Seattle Police Officer’s Guild in an unprecedented alliance to get Seattle to prioritize Public Safety and first responders.            

·         Tim Burgess was a Seattle Police Officer and understands what police officers and fire fighters face on the job.

·         Tim Burgess has publicly advocated for increased staffing for fire fighters and police.

·         Tim Burgess has demonstrated leadership and high ethical and moral standards.

·         Tim has years of public service experience and has demonstrated his commitment to serving the citizens of Seattle and prioritizing Public Safety.

·         David Della ignored the recommendations of Fire Chief Gregory Dean and Local 27 regarding Fire Station 20 and now its renovation has been pushed back indefinitely.

·         David Della was responsible for the civilianization of the Seattle Fire Department Disability Officer. He was supposed to remove that portion from the 2007-2008 budget and did not. When asked why he simply said, “I just forgot”.

·         David Della has not been an advocate for Seattle Fire Fighters in any real way.

If we are successful in helping to elect Tim Burgess it will demonstrate the importance of Public Safety to our City Leaders where it matters most to them-their jobs. It will make it more difficult for them to ignore the Fire Chief and Local 27 when we talk about staffing, training, equipment, apparatus, other resources, response times, fire stations, interoperability, the LEOFF 2 problem, retirement medical, disability issues, contract negotiations, and other issues important to Seattle Fire Fighters.

Please note that our support for Tim Burgess is solely based on his value to Public Safety, the service we provide to the citizens of Seattle, and his value to the health, safety, and welfare of Seattle Fire Fighters and their families.

Please do not underestimate the power of our participation in the political process. The citizens of Seattle and our elected officials welcome our participation. They will listen when fire fighters speak up and advocate for Public Safety, fire fighter safety, and disability and post-retirement inadequacies. But our elected officials will only help us with our issues if we help them as well.
