Treasured husband, son, brother, step-father, uncle and friend, passed on January 17th surrounded by close friends and family following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Jim, “Jimmy” or Scragg was born May 7, 1953 in Spokane Washington and was the pride and joy of his beaming mother Mary Edda.
Growing up in the Baby Boom generation and being an army-brat, some of Jim’s most cherished child hood memories where spent traveling cross country with his mother and younger brother. Known as the brain by his family and friends, Jim not only excelled in academics, but athletics as well. Even as a young child, he had a gentlemanly demeanor and a growing interest in the outdoors.
After graduation from Clover Park High in Tacoma he attended Oregon State University before joining the Seattle Fire Department in 1978. His 30 year career with the department not only left a mark, it left a legacy. Jim thought of his co-workers as more than colleagues, they became his family and a source of great pride. His love and loyalty to those in his life will forever be missed. Jim’s ability to inspire and live life to the fullest was exemplified in every endeavor he took.
Jim sought solace in nature and felt true freedom when at his second home in Bingen, Washington across the Columbia from Hood River, Oregon. One of Jim’s greatest passions was wind surfing and the days spent on the River were some of his favorites. “Windy Bluff” was the quintessential home for Jim; he had a smile when the wind was in his face, and a laugh for his beloved hummingbirds darting past his lookout window. It was the house of a true adventure-man. He loved sharing his home with others and took every opportunity to be there with his loved ones.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Stacey, stepson Mac, mother Mary, brother, Keith and niece Desiree and the countless others he came in contact with throughout his life.
