(View Roll Calls) House Bill Feb 21 First reading, referred to Appropriations. ..................................................................... Other Bills that affect Fire Fighters SB 6223 – Would require EMT’s to carry and administer Glucagon. The bill passed the Senate and was heard in the House Health Care Committee. It was amended to require the EMS Trauma Steering Committee to make recommendations on EMT’s carrying this drug and further allows EMT’s to administer a patient’s own Glucagon. It awaits further action in the House Rules Committee. HB ..................................................................... 1822 / SB 5642 – Addresses cigarette ignition propensity. This is a priority of the Washington State Fire Chiefs Association. This bill passed the Senate and was heard by the House Commerce & Labor Committee. It was amended and awaits executive action in committee. ..................................................................... HB 2687 / SB 6378 – These are the supplement operating budgets for the State. The WSCFF sought an amendment to the State Patrol budget that would increase the Washington State Fire Fighter JATC appropriation by $100,000. The current appropriated amount is $250,000. The House passed this amendment, and we continue to work with the Senate and Governor as the budget will be addressed by a conference committee. ..................................................................... HB 2938 – Provides job protections during annexations of fire district service areas by cities. We continue to have concerns when a city annexes these service areas, minimizes the taxing authority of the fire district, and fails to provide existing service delivery or job protections for the remaining members of the fire district. The House passed the bill, and it awaits a hearing in the Senate Government Operations Committee. We are working to secure a hearing. ..................................................................... HB 3139 / SB 6750 – Would provide benefits under industrial insurance law when an employer appeals a worker’s award for injury and/or time loss benefits. In 2007, the bill enhancing fire fighter presumptive cancers included “benefits on appeal” but was excluded in the final version. The bill was amended and passed by the House and heard in the Senate Labor & Commerce Committee February 26. It must pass this committee and the Senate Ways & Means Committee by March 3 for further action. ..................................................................... HB 1545 – Would provide industrial insurance benefits for life to the surviving spouse of a LEOFF member killed in the line-of-duty. The House has already passed this bill, and it was heard in the Senate Labor & Commerce Committee February 26. It must pass this committee and the Senate Ways & Means Committee by March 3 for further action. ..................................................................... HB 3331 – Extends the presumption established in RCW 51.32.185(1) (d) to any firefighter who has contracted methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This bill failed to pass out of the assigned committee and is currently dead. ..................................................................... HB 1873 – Revises the requirements for, and recoveries under, a wrongful injury or death cause of action, or a survival action. This bill was amended and passed the House. It was heard by the Senate Government Operations Committee February 26. It must pass this committee and the Senate Ways & Means Committee by March 3 for further action.
