Station 2-
January
2008- The city has selected the old Denny's restaurant on Aurora Ave., just north of Denny Way as the
interim site for the station.
Remodeling
of the station begins in mid 2008.
Station 5-
No decision
will be made on the fate of this station until a decision is made on how the
Alaskan Way Viaduct will be replaced.
Station 6-
January 2008-
City Council votes to proceed with purchasing
land at the S.W. corner of M.L. King & Jackson for the future station.
Construction
is scheduled for 2009.
Station 9-
Originally
scheduled for later in the levy, but will be moved up by two years to try and
save on construction costs.
Station 10/FAC/EOC-
January
2008- The EOC has moved into the facility. Station 10 will be moving in March.
The admin staff for the FAC move-in at the end of February. The FAC Dispatchers
are the last to move in Mid April.
The FAC
requires a lot of lead time to ensure a smooth transition as there is only
going to be a one second cutover process to ensure no interruption of 9-1-1
calls.
Station 14-
Project is
currently on hold. The station is in a liquefaction zone and as many of the
other buildings in the area, it sits on top of pilings. It was recently discovered
that the station is not fastened to the pilings, making it very unstable in the
event of an earthquake. The added cost to secure the entire station to the
pilings would raise the cost to remodel the station to more than the estimated
cost to rebuild (not including the cost of land acquisition). This station has
landmark status so rebuilding on the current site is not an option. They are
going to evaluate all options, including co-locating units at another existing
station, and present their findings in early 2008.
Station 17-
This is a
remodel with a large addition to the north side of the building, which will
include new apparatus bays on the east side of the station, which the engine
and truck will respond out of. The old bays on N.E. 50 St will be used for the
aid car and chief. Several homes to the north have been purchased by the city
as part of this project.
Construction
is slated to begin in mid-2008.
Station 20-
The firm
Enviroissues was hired to assist with site selection. A report is to be
delivered in February 2008.
Station 22-
No decision
will be made on this station until there is a resolution on what will happen
with the expansion of SR-520.
Station 28-
This was
originally going to be a remodel, but was changed to new construction after
further review. The new station is going to be built around the existing station
which will allow the crews to stay in their existing building until the new
station is completed. Construction is slated to begin in mid-2008.
Station 30-
A new
station will be built on the existing site. The land beneath the station drops
off significantly to the south and will require the use of pilings under the
foundation, anywhere from 10-50 feet in length. Construction is slated to
begin at the beginning of 2009.
Station 31-
Seismic
upgrade/remodel with one additional apparatus bay built on the west side of the
station.
Station will
be temporarily located just up the street in the church parking lot at 10503
Interlake Ave N. Construction is slated to start in the beginning of 2008.
Station 33-
Had to
undergo a wetlands review and was determined that a permit was not required.
This is a remodel and will require the station to be relocated during construction.
Construction is slated to begin in mid-2008.
Station 35-
New
construction on the existing site. New station will be two stories.
Construction is slated to begin at the end of 2008.
Station 37-
This station
has landmark status. A new station will be built at 35 Ave S.W. & S.W.
Holden St. at a former City light substation.
The substation has been de-energized and City Light is in the process of
vacating the site. Since this project is being built on a new site, the station
will not have to move during construction.
Station 38-
This station
has landmark status. A new station is going to be built at 40 Ave N.E. & N.
E. 55 St. This site requires environmental
cleanup which is now underway. Since this project is being built on a new
site, the station will not have to relocate during construction. Construction
is set to begin at the end of 2008.
Station 39-
New
construction on the existing site. New station will be two stories.
Construction is slated to begin at the end of 2008.
Station 41-
This station
has landmark status and will involve a remodel with an addition to the rear of
the station. The apparatus bays will be combined to create one larger bay
instead of the current two bays. Construction is slated to start at the end of
2008.
Fireboats-
The Leschi
(large platform) and Engine 1 (fast attack) fireboats have been delivered and
are in service. The Chief Seattle will soon undergo a retrofit that will be
completed by 2009.
