Brothers and Sisters,

As you know, I have been appointed President of Local 27 after the resignation of Ryan Ellis. Due to a family tragedy, Ryan made the decision to reduce his responsibilities in order to focus on his family’s needs. I would like to personally thank Ryan for his committed service to Seattle Fire Fighters and to the Department.

Today, I want to tell you what I will do as your President.

As President, I will support and enforce the Constitution and Bylaws of this Local and work hard to achieve our objectives. The Constitution and Bylaws establishes the mission of our organization and governs the activities of our Union. As a reminder, the objectives of Local 27 set by our Constitution and Bylaws are, in part:

 ·    The fostering and encouragement of a higher degree of skill and efficiency in

      the fire service;

·    The cultivation of friendship and fellowship among its members;

·    Also, the maintenance of proper remuneration for duty performed;

·    The elevation and improvement of the moral, intellectual, social, economic, health, and safety conditions of its members.

These objectives do not change; only our emphasis on them, and the strategy and tactics we employ to achieve them. You are welcome and encouraged to join us in developing our strategy and tactics.

Local 27 has accomplished many great things since our inception in 1918, but we still face many challenges as we work towards these objectives. I believe that these objectives are valuable and worth pursuing. Together we can overcome these challenges.

Members may place more or less importance on specific issues, but we each have a stake in all of them. If it’s important to you, it’s important to me.

That’s why I am asking you to participate in our Union in any way you can.

Come to a Union Meeting, join a committee, become a Station Rep, volunteer for a political event, go to the picnic, drop by the Union Hall to see what’s going on, or just share your thoughts, ideas, and concerns with us.

I hope I can count on you to invest a little bit of your time and effort in the Union.

You can certainly count on me.

In Solidarity,

 Kenny Stuart
