Kent Firefighter Loses Battle with Cancer PDF Print E-mail
KENT, WA – June 3, 2008 – The Kent Fire Department sadly announces the death of Firefighter Marty Hauer. 
Firefighter Hauer, a 15 year member of the Kent Fire Department passed away early this morning after a one year long battle with Thymic Carcinoma, a rare form of cancer.
Firefighter Hauer joined the Kent Fire Department on August 2, 1993 and was assigned to “A” shift.  Hauer, a fitness advocate, was very active in the development and promotion of firefighter fitness programs.  He was a peer fitness instructor for the department and also taught fitness seminars across the country in support of the International Association of Firefighters Wellness Fitness Initiative. 
“On behalf of the City of Kent and the Kent Fire Department, we extend our deepest and sincere sympathies to Marty Hauer’s family and friends.  The Kent Fire Department has lost more than a colleague; we have also lost a friend.  The Kent Fire Department will be less than it could have been without Marty” said Kent Fire Chief Jim Schneider.
Hauer, who turned 41 in November, is survived by his wife of 16 years, a 10 year son and 9 year old daughter.  Funeral arrangements have not been announced at this time.  Further information will be released as it becomes available.
