NOTICE OF NOMINATION AND ELECTION

2008 General Election of Local 27 Officers

Seattle Fire Fighters Union, Local 27

International Association of Fire Fighters

 

General Election for:  one (1) President, one (1) Executive Secretary, and one (1) Director. 

 

Description of Duties and Compensation:

 

 

President shall be paid 45% top step fire fighter monthly salary per month and shall serve a three year term; serve as the Chief Executive Officer of this Local;

preside at all meetings of this Local; appoint all committee chairpersons; appoint delegates; approve all public statements; approve all expenses in conjunction with the Treasurer; issue statements to members, Fire Department, media, and general public; attend to and investigate any grievance in conjunction with the Vice President; attend any political issue affecting the general welfare of this local; serve on the Editorial Board and Negotiations committee; be responsible for all the political activity of this local; be responsible for all necessary political records and reports in conjuncture with the Treasurer; and by virtue of office be a delegate to IAFF conventions , Washington State Labor Council, and King County Labor Council.

 Executive Secretary shall be paid 30% top step fire fighter monthly salary per month and shall serve a three year term; assist President in education of the membership; be responsible for Station Representative meetings, training, and education; be responsible for the social activities; be responsible for membership participation activity; keep minutes; read all pertinent communications received; cause policies to be reviewed; and by virtue of office be a delegate to IAFF conventions.

Directors shall be paid 10% of the top step fire fighter monthly salary per month and serve a three year term, attend monthly membership meetings, monthly Executive Board meetings, chair committees as designated by the President, and visit 2 stations per month. 

Campaign Guidelines

Nominees may submit a biography (200 words or less) and 40 flyers to the Union to be authorized for Station Bulletin Boards by June 12, 2008.A membership mailing list will be provided upon request, mailing is the responsibility of the nominee. 

Nominations (Date, Time & Place)Open:    July 10, 2008 during the Regular Business Meeting (B-Shift) held at the Union Office.Close:    August 14, 2008 at the end of the Regular Business Meeting (B-Shift) held at the Union Office. 

Election (Date, Time & Place)

Start:     Upon receipt of Ballots (Ballots will be sent out on 9/03/08).End:      Ballots will be counted on 9/24/2008. 

Runoff Election (should one be necessary) (Date, Time & Place)

Start:     Upon receipt of Ballots (Ballots will be sent out on 9/30/2008).End:      Ballots will be counted on 10/21/2008. 

Voting

Ballots may be MAILED to the Election Post Office Box using the enclosed prepaid envelope.Ballots may be DROPPED OFF at the Union Office in person.If a member has not received a ballot within 10 days of the mailing, or otherwise requires a ballot, the member may request an ABSENTEE BALLOT in person, at the Union Office. 

On 9/24/2008 ballots shall be collected and counted.  Ballots received after the ballot collection shall be invalid and will not be counted.
