President

 Kenny Stuart

Brothers and Sisters, I have been involved in this Union since 1998 and have had the privilege of serving as Station Representative, Director, Vice President, and currently as President.

I consider myself a fire fighter first and a union leader second.

I ask for your vote so I may continue to fight for the safety and security of you and your families. I have seen just how much Local 27, WSCFF, and IAFF have contributed to the lives and well-being of fire fighters, their families, and the public and I am proud to have played a part in many successful efforts on behalf of fire fighters.

I will continue to elevate our proud profession, respect our traditions, and plan for your future as I represent you.

I want you to believe that this really is your Union, and I will work to instill in you a desire to support what Local 27 does in your name. We really can do great things together, protecting ourselves and our families, ensuring adequate compensation, and improving Public Safety, while being a valuable and respected part of our community.

I would be honored to have your support.  Thanks and be careful.

Executi ve Secretery

Dennis Karl

I am running for Local 27 Executive Secretary because I am committed to Seattle Fire Fighters and improving communication and member involvement.  A more involved membership will give members a better Union experience, will increase the Union’s influence, and will result in better hours, wages, and working conditions.

Open, often, and accessible communication is an essential part of involving members in our Union.  These are important responsibilities of the Executive Secretary that I will continue to improve and ensure are part of our Union’s day-to-day operation.

My experience includes: managing the Union website’s ongoing content and improvements; minding the union organization details; managing past Local 27’s MDA Fill the Boots and raising over $65,000 last year with over 120 volunteers; representing Local 27 during the Station 31 Cancer Investigation, grievances, and disciplines; negotiating our vacation grid, medical, contract, and staffing levels; regularly representing Local 27 at the WSCFF and IAFF conventions and seminars; and participating in campaigns for Local 27 supported politicians.

I would appreciate your vote so that I may continue the honor of representing you and move our great organization forward.

Thank You.

Director

Theresa Purtell

Brothers and Sisters, I am Theresa Purtell, Driver E26 B Shift, Local 27 member since 1980. I have 20+ years of active participation in Local 27 as Director, Elections Chair, Safety Committee, Station Representative, and Washington State Council of Fire Fighters 11th District Representative.

I HAVE been working on the issues that affect LEOFF II.  For the last 6 years, I have set up appointments at the Capitol with Seattle’s 18 elected officials to discuss the bills that will be sitting on their desks that affect fire fighters, like the alternate revenue bill for LEOFF II that posted this past January 2008.

Olympia is where the changes to LEOFF II are made. I have and will continue to develop relationships with the folks who vote on our issues, working to improve and ensure that LEOOFF II keeps changing to address all the deficiencies. I am asking for your vote, and I would be honored to continue to represent you.

In solidarity, Theresa Purtell

Roberto Jourdan

jourdanweb Hello Brothers and Sisters,

I am Roberto Jourdan, the Lieutenant at E16 on B shift. I’m seeking your vote for Director with Local 27. I have been a member of Local 27 since 1978. I’ve served on many boards for the SFD and have been the athletic director for Local 27.

I have held elected positions with the Seattle Black Firefighter Association for many years, with the last 15 years as the President. My dedication to the organization has been steadfast dealing with the SFD administration and the City to ensure fairness in hiring, promotions, disciplinary matters assuring fairness for all. As your Director, the skill sets I have acquired with the SBFFA will integrate seamlessly and advantageously with the skills necessary to provide all members of Local 27 the representation we deserve.

I can make a measurable contribution to Local with my experience, my problem solving skills and my passion for this profession. As firefighters we are living the dream, my intent is to not have it become a nightmare when we retire. As your Director I would have the opportunity to make retirement benefits more of a priority for Local 27.

Thanks in advance for your support,

Roberto
